Bascarsija (Old Town)
Old Town has a mix of neo-classical and Ottoman architecture. The old town has been restored to its former glory after large parts were destroyed during the 1992-95 Bosnian war.
Today, the mood and the atmosphere is wonderful, and a visit to the Old Town is a must when traveling to Sarajevo. There is a wide variety of beautiful buildings, charming restaurants, bars and many souvenir shops and local artisans.
Sarajevo City Hall
Sarajevo’s City Hall is an excellent example of the amazing architecture from the period of Austria-Hungary. The building is both historical and beautiful and is well worth a visit if you like beautiful buildings.
Sarajevo War Tunnel
During the war in Bosnia, this tunnel was the only road in and out for many of the city’s residents. Nowadays, the tunnel is a museum where you get a history lesson and an insight into the Bosnian war.
Try Bosnian coffee
Coffee in Bosnia is what tea is in the UK and it’s an important part of everyday life. Each Sarajevan has their own favorite café. Our favorite is called Caffe Tito and located on Zmaja od Bosne 5.
It can be a bit tricky to find it, but it is well worth the effort.
Skakavac waterfall
About 12 km outside the city lies the waterfall Skakavac. All around you will find an incredibly beautiful nature. If you like nature or hiking, you should schedule to wander around Skakavac.
Visit the place where the world changed forever
“The shooting in Sarajevo” was what sparked the First World War. The shots killed the crown prince Franz Ferdinand, and it was this moment that overturned the cup.
Try the Bosnian cuisine
Bosnia and Herzegovina have many good dishes. Some dishes not to be missed are: cevap, burek, and baklava. Around the city, there are plenty of restaurants serving good food from Bosnia and other parts of the Balkans.

Avaz Tower
Sarajevo’s only skyscraper offers stunning views over the city. The tower is also a sky bar. For the best view, you should climb to the platform above the bar.
