Today it’s almost completely deserted, apart from tourists visiting the city.

Twyfelfontein

In northwestern Namibia, you’ll find some of Africa’s largest areas of stone carvings. Most of the carvings were made over 6,000 years ago by the African bushmen. The rock carvings depicting people, footprints and several animals such as elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and ostriches.

Cape Cross

Cape Cross is located approximately 120 km north of Swakopmund. It offers the world’s largest colony of Cape Fur Seal. During November and December, up to 150 000 seals gather here to mate. It’s a cool experience to see with your own eyes, and it’s also one of the top things to do in Namibia as a tourist!

Fish River Canyon and Hot Springs in Ai-Ais

In the south-eastern part of Namibia lies one of the world’s largest canyons. Before you enter the Fish River Canyon, you can take a dip in the hot springs of Ai-Ais. Here you can enjoy spa treatments and hot springs in a beautiful environment. After you have pampered yourself, then you can end your day by watching the sunset in the Fish River Canyon.

The Caprivi strip

The Caprivi Strip is a narrow strip of land that runs between Botswana in the south, and Angola & Zambia in the north of the Okavango region in Namibia. Caprivi is the wettest region in Namibia with high rainfall and a large number of rivers, including the Okavango, Kwando and Zambezi rivers.

The abundance of water feeds a large number of animal species, including a large population of elephants. Wildlife is protected in four reserves. Between the reserves, there are no fences so that the animals can roam freely between countries, how they want.
