Are you traveling to Barcelona? Here’s a list of our favorite attractions and the top 10 things to do in Barcelona as a tourist that you should include on your Barcelona itinerary.

You can visit Barcelona in 3 days or stay a week or even longer, there is almost an endless amount of activities, and the Catalan capital will surely don’t disappoint, no matter the time of the year you visit. There are also many good hotels and hostels in Barcelona to choose from.

La Rambla

La Rambla may be touristy, but to take a stroll along this famous boulevard is still one of the top things to do in Barcelona. La Rambla is a wide boulevard that stretches from the Columbus statue to the Placa de Catalunya.

La Rambla has a long history and is today a major tourist magnet full of people virtually around the clock. But, please remember to Keep an eye on your belongings since it’s a common area for pickpocketing.

Gothic Quarter (Barri Gotic)

One of Barcelona’s most charming neighborhoods, the Gothic Quarter. The area is full of small alleys and squares with lovely cafes and beer gardens. Many of the buildings in Barri Gotic are derived from the Middle Ages. This is the old part of Barcelona and offers, therefore, a great and varied history.

Many people just enjoy wandering around here. And, if you get hungry, there are plenty of places to eat in and the food served is an exciting mix of the old and the modern. I think strolling around here is a very romantic thing to do in the city and definitely something we can recommend to couples.

Experience the amazing Gaudi architecture

Barcelona is known worldwide for its beautiful buildings and an architect who symbolizes this in an excellent way is Gaudi. Gaudi designed many of the city’s most spectacular buildings. Gaudi’s architecture includes the following buildings:

  • Sagrada Familia – perhaps Barcelona’s most famous landmark, a must!
  • La Pedrera
  • Casa Batllo
  • Palau GĂĽell
  • Casa Vicens

Last but not least we have the Parc Guell which is a sort of combination of park and art exhibition. The park is lovely, and inside the park, you can pay admission and see Gaudi’s mosaic creations. One tip is to book tickets in advance on the internet. This saves you also from the long queues. Another tip is to go there on weekdays when there are fewer people. Otherwise, the park is filled with beautiful trees, flowers, and plants. If you get up to the top, you can also enjoy a lovely view.

Like to admire some of the world’s finest pieces of art? Then a visit to the Picasso Museum is a must while visiting Barcelona! We recommend to book your tickets ahead or go there early.

Day trip to Montserrat

Montserrat is an incredibly beautiful nature park, just outside Barcelona. High mountains and steep canyons dominate the area and to get easily set up via cable car or rälståg. Once upon Montserrat, one can visit a museum, shops, and a large old monastery. There are many fine paintings and sculptures, among other things, is an ancient rock carving from the 1100s depicting the Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus. The view from Montserrat is absolutely stunning, and there are also several pieces of beautiful hiking trails.

Going on a day trip to Montserrat is definitely one of the best things to do in Barcelona!

Fish and seafood

Thanks to Barcelona’s proximity to the sea, there is a wide selection of seafood. Most of the city’s restaurants high class, but if you want to be sure of a great taste experience you should go to the Rias de Galicia, located in Lleida, 7 in the Poble-sec.

Pintxos and Tapas

The typical pintxos and tapas in Barcelona is a must to try when visiting the city. There are several good places, but our absolute favorite is the Euskal Etxea. Eating Pintxos is definitely one of the best things to do in Barcelona!

Night Life

Barcelona has one of Europe’s best nightlife, maybe even one of the world’s best nightlife. There is something for all tastes, whether you just want to sip a drink and enjoy good company, or if you want to party all night long until the sun rises. Barcelona’s nightlife has something for everyone, and it would be a shame not to experience it during your stay in the city.

Gran Teatre de Liceu

Appreciate classical music and opera? Then you should book in a visit at the Gran Teatre de Liceu. Here you are treated to a magnificent setting and a unique experience in one of Europe’s most beautiful music halls.

Take a walk in the Parc de la Ciutadella

A nice park located in Barcelona’s medieval center. Parc de la Ciutadella is a calm and peaceful green oasis, perfect if you want to relax from the urban pulse. The park has many beautiful and rare flowers and plants.

Montjuic

For those who like nature and nice views, then a visit Montjuic is one of the must things to do in Barcelona. The mountain is located next to central Barcelona. It’s also home to Jardi Botanic and several buildings from the Summer Olympics in Barcelona 92. The easiest way to get here is from Placa de Espanya with the cable car.
