Vathy (Samos Town)

Vathy or Vathi (also known as Samos Town) is the capital of the island and also the largest city on Samos with about 6000 inhabitants. From here you have a great starting point if you want to explore the island by hiking and day trips. In the city, there are also a lot of cozy taverns and restaurants for you to enjoy Greek food and refreshing drinks.

Heraion

According to Greek mythology, it was at Samos that the goddess Hera was born. Locals honored her by building a temple (actually one of Greece’s biggest). Today, only one of the original 133 columns remain. During 1992, both Heraion and Pythagorio was included on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Lemonakia Beach

Samos most beautiful beach is called Lamonakia Beach and is located near Kokkari. Here, there’s everything you need for a lovely day at the beach, and there’s also plenty of space for all visitors. Pythagorio

A cozy little village located on the southeast side of Samos. Eupalinos Tunnel

This tunnel is considered to be one of the main buildings of ancient Greece and goes about 1000 meters into the mountain Kastri. The tunnel was built on the orders of Polycrates who wated to supply the city with water 500 BC.

Many travelers visit Samos to hike in the lush nature of the island. Vathi is a great city to start your hike. One of the most popular destinations for hikers is the Valley of the Nightingale – a popular area with rivers, greenery and also a paradise for bird watchers.
