Altstadt – Old Town

Something that cannot be missed when exploring Salzburg, is to visit the historic city center. In Salzburg’s old town, one can easily walk around for a few hours without getting tired, since there’s so much to see and do there.

Altstadt has a lot to offer if you want to spend a nice day in Salzburg. Here you can visit beautiful churches, have a look in shops, have a cup of coffee, see Mozart’s birthplace, see the fantastic views up at the fortress and wander through the district’s small pedestrian streets.

Salzburg’s Fortress

A visit to Salzburg’s fortress is a must during your stay in the city. Salzburg’s fortress is an interesting place to explore, and it has several exhibitions to have a look at and a lot of Austrian history to learn.

The fort also offers a superb view of the city and has a beautiful courtyard with a lovely café where you can enjoy a nice cup of tea or a light snack.

Salzburg’s Cathedral

This beautiful cathedral is one of Salzburg’s main tourist attractions. Come here and look at the church’s astonishing architecture, the beautiful sculptures, domes, and paintings. Take the opportunity to enjoy the peaceful atmosphere and breath in the history of Salzburg.

Untersberg

To see the beautiful scenery of Salzburg and Austria, one can visit the mountain Untersberg by cable car. The cable car is in itself an amazing experience where you will get to see the amazing nature of Austria from above.

When you get to the top of the mountain, you’ll be greeted by fantastic views of Salzburg and surrounding nature, and there’s also a nice cafĂ© where you can enjoy a good cup of coffee.

You can easily get to the cable car by local transport from central Salzburg. Just take the bus 25 from Mirabell and get off at the final station. If you have a Salzburg Card, then both the bus- and cable car ride will be free of charge.

Mirabell

Mirabell is a beautiful and thriving park in the center of Salzburg. It doesn’t matter what time of year you come; the park has fabulous floral arrangements all year round. During the high season of the year, many concerts are also organized here.

Are you a fan of classic films like The Sound of Music? Then you have to come to this park since several of the scenes from the movies were filmed here – among other things the beautiful gazebo!

Lake Zell

If you go to Salzburg during the warmer months of the year and feel for some sun, sand, and relaxation – then you have to go to the Alpine Lake Zell. At this lake, there’s a lot to do for those who like to be active. Come here and take a lovely walk or bike ride around the lake, go for a boat ride or rent a pedal boat.

Here you can also enjoy a nice cup of coffee or a cold beer, and of course, you can always bring your own food and have a picnic with your friends or family!

Augustiner Braustubl

Augustiner Braustubl is the best brewery in Salzburg and lies in an old monastery with many rooms and a large delightful garden. Come here and drink a couple of cold beers with a meal from one of the building’s various food stalls.

If you like to socialize and get to know the locals, then this is a place for you since it’s popular among the Salzburg residents.
