Cologne Cathedral

The Cologne Cathedral is one of the city’s most famous attractions, and also a must when it comes to things to do in Cologne. Cologne Cathedral has two towers; where both have a height of 157 meters.

For a brief period, this was the world’s tallest building before the Washington Monument was completed. The cathedral has, however, taken a quite long time to build and was completed in “only” 632 years. The construction began in 1248 and was completed in 1880.

The cathedral is one of those sights that you have to visit since it’s one of the top things to do in Cologne!

Farina Fragrance Museum

Farina Fragrance Museum is an old perfume factory that’s still active today but is mostly a museum full of perfumes and various fragrances that have been popular through the year.

The Perfume Factory opened back in the 1700s, and it was here that the product “eau de cologne” was created. Here you get the opportunity to try different scents and even buy and bring home fragrances.

Botanical Garden

The botanical garden is another famous attraction in Cologne with over 1 million visitors a year. It has more than 10,000 plants from around the world that are arranged in a beautiful way.

Here you’ll find everything from tropical plants in greenhouses to European plants. It’s a great place for families, and visiting the Botanical garden in Cologne is definitely one of the best things to do in Cologne with kids

Right in the middle of the garden lies the building Flora, an old building where they often arrange concerts, different events, and also conferences.

Neptun Bath

The Neptun Bath is a traditional spa facility that has existed for over 100 years. This traditional bathhouse is popular among both tourists and locals.

Roman Praetorium

If you like history and, in particular; the history of the Roman Empire, then it’s a must to visit the Roman Praetorium. The area is still an archaeological site and is excavated periodically.

National Socialism Documentation Center

The National Socialism Documentation Center was Gestapo’s headquarters during the second world war in Cologne. The basement was used as a prison, and today there are over 1800 inscriptions left that were made by the prisoners who were sitting there.

Nowadays, it’s also a vivid description of what the Nazis actually were doing.

Kolumba

Kolumba is a museum with beautiful architecture which was formerly was an old monastery. The exhibitions vary, but the building itself is worth a visit if you are interested in architecture and beautiful buildings.

Rheinseilbahn

Go on cable car ride over the city and the Rhine River. The cable cars run from Cologne Zoo to Theinpark and, as we have mentioned before, we do not recommend a visit to the zoo.
