Visit the Giza Pyramids

When visiting Egypt, one simply have to visit one of the world’s seven wonders, the Giza Pyramids. Outside the town of Giza lies the world-famous pyramids; The Great Pyramid of Giza, the little pyramid of Khafre, the mid-sized Pyramid of Menkaure and the Great Sphinx.

This should definitely be included on your Cairo itinerary since it’s one of the best places to visit in the city.

Karnak

In Karnak, it’s easy to spend a whole day to watch all the excavations. This temple is located in Luxor and has many well-preserved inscriptions, sculptures, statues and buildings that you can go into. See the temple’s beautiful carvings and paintings on both walls and ceilings and breathe in 3000 years of history.

Abu Simbel

It can be a little hard to get out to Abu Simbel, but most people who visit the sites say it is worth the effort, including us at Destinavo. Abu Simbel lies in Nubia in southern Egypt on the western bank of the Nile. These stunning temples were built when Ramses II reigned 1400 F. K. Here one can see the impressive facade with its 20 meter high statues that were carved directly into the rocks.

The temple’s interior is equally fascinating, with its sculptures, relics, and architecture. Every year visitors flock to behold when the sunlight hits the temple’s interior parts, highlighting the four beautiful statues inside the temple. This particular event takes place on February 22 and 22 October to celebrate Ramses birthday and ascension to the throne.

The Egyptian Museum

The Egyptian Museum in Cairo includes the world’s most comprehensive collection of antiquities from ancient Egypt, and no visit to Egypt is complete without visiting this museum. Here one can see incredible collections of preserved treasures, statues, portraits and royal mummies. Upstairs is an exhibition of the world famous pharaoh Tutankhamun, which among other things one can see the pharaoh’s famous and expensive funeral mask.

Something that you cannot miss during your vacation in Egypt is to visit the island of Agilkia, where the temple of Isis is located. This temple was dedicated to Isis, goddess of the sky and nature.
